Evangelism

Evangelism is a major focus at Saint John. After all, it’s our middle name!

“Pretzel Story”

Our evangelism team makes sure that all first-time worshippers
to our church are visited within 24 hours after they are in church -
not with a high-powered “sales pitch”,
but a pretzel and a warm thank you for worshipping with us.
They are given the story of the pretzel and
an information packet about Saint John,
including the current issue of The Journal - our parish newsletter.

At least twice a year, the Evangelism committee holds events
to let the community know “what’s up” at Saint John,
and to tell them about the love of Jesus in very tangible ways.

In the spring - usually around Palm Sunday - we hold a Free Car Wash.
No fee is charged and no donations are accepted.
About 2,000 years ago, most people got around on foot -
so Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.
In this day and age, most people get around by automobile, so...
well, you probably get the picture!
We have some refreshments for our guests, and invite them
to tour the church building while their car is being spiffed-up for Easter.

Later in the year, we “Feed the 5,000” - or at least everyone
that stops by for a free lunch of hot dogs and all the trimmings.
Again, our guests are invited to tour the church as we tell them a bit
about Saint John and our many activities.

So when you come to Saint John to worship with us for the first time,
don’t be surprised when a friendly face shows up at your door bearing a pretzel.
And the next time you drive by the church and see signs for
a free car wash or a free lunch, stop by and say hi.
You’re sure to be greeted warmly in the
name of Christ!
